Providing support to first-response emergency
medical care in the Avon Valley of South
Warwickshire in partnership with the West
Midlands Ambulance Service

Who we are

Avon Valley Community First Responder Scheme is a support scheme for Community First Responders (CFRs) in the Avon Valley area around Stratford-upon-Avon. It is comprised of CFR members and Supporter members. Each grade of member has a vote should one be required at meetings.

The need for a CFR scheme was highlighted by the Stratford Town Trust who approached Shakespeare Lions to organise the formation of the scheme in 2011. Previously Shakespeare Lions had funded a defibrillator for the then single Stratford CFR although on legal Charitable Incorporated Organisation formation in June 2012 there were no operational CFRs in the Stratford area.

All our CFRs are trained and examined by WMAS to a stringent nationally recognised standard (First Person on the Scene Intermediate). As with all CFRs they are re-assessed and revalidated on an annual basis by WMAS. All CFRs have been subjected to a successful DBS, Disclosure and Barring Service, check.

Both grades of scheme member are volunteers who give their time to train, be on call, fundraise or organisational support. Regular contact is maintained with the WMAS through the Scheme Coordinator.

If you are interested in joining as a Community First Responder or purely as a Scheme support or fundraising member, please see 'How you can help'.
